The Staatsballett Berlin presents a two-part evening featuring SAABA by Sharon Eyal and Minus 16 by Ohad Naharin, two major figures in dance whose work is a perfect fit for the company. A modern, hypnotic, and exhilarating program.
With SAABA, Sharon Eyal creates a world of movement and rhythm that is as fascinating as it is mysterious. The pulsating beats of Ori Lichtik’s music blend with fragments of familiar melodies, creating an ever-changing soundscape.
The costumes, designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, then creative director of Dior, envelop the dancers in an ethereal fabric of lace and slits, both fragile and powerful.
The choreographer’s unique style exudes a singular hypnotic force and unleashes its full power against this expressive musical backdrop.
In Minus 16, Ohad Naharin unreservedly shares a celebration of life.
This iconic piece blends raw energy, humor, and directed improvisation. A fiery, acrobatic, and daring ballet, it demands total emotional openness from the dancers. Set to an eclectic mix of music ranging from popular tunes to more introspective pieces, the piece is powerfully embodied by a large ensemble of dancers. It has drawn numerous standing ovations since its premiere in 1999 by the Nederlands Dans Theater.
At times hilarious, utterly captivating, Naharin’s ballet is undeniably exhilarating. Its positive energy is contagious, and the contagion is intentional.
In Paris, the Staatsballett Berlin presents two pieces and a shared urgency to dance.
